I was delighted to be asked by Sonja, who found me through rollercoaster.ie, to take pictures of her being pregnant for eight months. Sonja wanted photos for herself but it was mainly for her friends who were asking what she looks like being pregnant! We met for coffee first in Sandymount to get the feel of what we wanted to achieve and where we would have it done. As the weather was quite unpredictable, we decided to chance it to do the photography the next morning on Sandymount beach. The day turned out to be dry and bright.
As it has been a long time for me to take pictures of pregnant women, I was a bit nervous to do the shoot, but I was confident it would turn out fine. Sonja was a bit nervous too not knowing what to do, but I put her at ease and was chatty to take her mind off things. I advised her to look down at her tummy and put her hand on it to show the ‘joy of pregnancy’!
We tried different locations on the beach for about half an hour or so before settling back to her house to finish the rest of the shoot. There I suggested to Sonja to change into something different, and she changed from her dress to a pair of jeans, tank top and a shirt which was pretty suited against the backdrop of the red bricked houses on the terrace.
I enjoyed the shoot as much as Sonja did and would love to do more. I look forward to seeing the baby with more pictures to take throughout the year, so watch this space or better still sign up for the newsletter on the right or on facebook for future posts.
