I remember this wedding session in 2008 and was delighted that Mary (winner of Masterchef Ireland 2011), whose sister Neasa’s wedding I also photographed in 2004, asked me to take photos of her wedding. The day before the wedding I travelled to Co Clare to view the luxurious 5 star hotel so to familiarise myself with the venue. I bumped into Mary and her family and was shown around before I proceeded to the lovely quaint church, St Senan’s in Bealaha Co Clare, where the ceremony was to take place.
– Mary’s mother’s quote “Mary even showed the best of taste in choosing her wedding photographer!” –
The wedding day thankfully was dry and sunny….not much of a storm but a hint of a breeze. I always laugh at myself thinking how lucky I have been as a wedding photographer to bring along the sunshine on the bride and groom’s special day ever since I started professionally in 2004. The bridal suite was spacious and had upstairs room for the bride to get ready. I took photos of the bridesmaids and the flowergirl whilst waiting for the bride to come down. It was not so long ’til she appeared, was ready to have her veil attached watched by her close family and friends.
I proceeded to the church taking photos of the groom with his best men followed by a steady flow of guests arriving. The lovely church ceremony was conducted by two priests, one of who is Mary’s brother Father Luke and one of the singers was another brother of her’s, Cormac. After the signing of the registry I had the time to quickly take some photos of the newly married couple among family and friends coming out of the church before I headed back to the hotel in time.
At the Doonbeg golf resort I captured and documented the arrival of the bride and groom being greeted by a rapturous applause of their family and friends before settling down for a well deserved drink. Out to the back of the hotel is a stunning view of the best golf course facing the Atlantic Ocean where the wedding photos of the bridesmaids and best men along with the bride and groom’s families were taken. The resort is been one of the best wedding locations in County Clare. The wedding reception took place beside the hotel in a marquee which looked gorgeous and had been fabulously decorated to match the theme of a wedding. Before the meal started the sun was about to set which was the perfect moment to take pictures of the bride and groom outside the backdrop of the sky…..this certainly was one of my favourite wedding photography stories.
As of now I would like to congratulate Mary Carney for being the first winner of Masterchef Ireland and if you love food please have a look at her yummy recipe website! Oh and one of the photos I took was shown on RTE Masterchef ! Hurray!
